Team ATL Advantage Studios is sure you’ve heard of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but there’s another (and in our opinion, even more important) shopping day that sits squarely in between these two retail events – Small Business Saturday. Started by American Express in 2010, this day serves as a reminder that when shopping for the holidays, small and local is the way to go!

We’re a bit biased of course, since ATL Advantage Studios falls into the small business category, but it’s still a great idea. And if you’re not sure how to get involved with Small Business Saturday, here are a few ideas to help you out:

• Shop at Small Businesses: We’re not suggesting that you skip Black Friday (though we’re not NOT suggesting it), but we do think it’s a good idea to at least save some shopping for the next day. Consider small shops for those hard-to-please people and specialty gifts too.

• Help Spread the Word: Word of mouth is still the most effective form of advertising, and sometimes all it takes for family and friends to change their shopping habits is a gentle nudge from you. Sharing online content from a local eatery or boutique is helpful as well.

• Leave Reviews: Getting people in the door is harder for small businesses than big box retailers because they lack the name recognition. The more positive reviews a place has, the easier it is for people to give it a try.

We’re gearing up for a phenomenal Small Business Saturday this year, and look forward to supporting the other members of our community this holiday season. Follow ATL Advantage Studios on Instagram to see where we’ll be shopping.
